About Glass Eye Studio
Glass Eye Studio® is a family business owned and operated by Susan and Ted Smith. It is located in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle. The venerable studio was founded in 1978 by art glass pioneer Rob Adamson with the mission to provide young glass artists the opportunity to make a living while they developed their artistic voice. Artists who have had an association with the studio over the years include Preston Singletary, Dante Marioni, Paul Marioni, Walter Lieberman, Fritz Dreisbach and Richard Royal. The studio was an early production shop for Dale Chihuly. Today’s GES has re-focused on the founding mission by adding aspiring artists to the staff who work in conjunction with the core team of talented glass blowers who made the company strong.
The idea for our Celebration Ashes line began with just a few families who were familiar with our work at Glass Eye Studio, and had asked the owner by special request if it would be possible to incorporate ashes into a few of our existing paperweight designs as memorial pieces for their loved ones. When the artists and owner saw how much comfort these few pieces brought to the families we created them for, they wanted to be able to offer the same service to more people. It was important to us as a company that we make these pieces ourselves, in our own studio, and be able to offer a memorial piece that is coming directly from the artists to the families – a personal touch.
Glass Eye Studio is the premier supplier of cremation ash memorials in the United States, and has produced over 12,000 glass memorials infused with cremation ash.
Everything sold by Glass Eye Studio® is made by hand by our artists in our private studio in Seattle. We take great pride in producing consistent, high-quality, and beautiful art glass pieces.
So many prominent glassblowers have spent time at Glass Eye Studio® that local artists like to say “All Roads Lead to the Eye.”
